Consequently, this research was conducted to find out the ke affective factors triggering students’ low participation in Iranian university EFL or classes. An informal Likert-scale questionnaire and a semi-structured interview wer used to collect data. A qualitative-quantitative method is used to describe the results o this research. Iranian students’ participation, as well as the teachers’ reflections a understandings and the underlying factors of the students’ behavior patterns wer investigated. In addition, this research looked at the theory and practice behin acquiring a second/foreign language. Finally, the results of this research showed tha five main factors such as lack of confidence, shyness, anxiety, afraid of makin mistakes and afraid of being despised are the most prohibiting affective factors amon Iranian university students . in EFL classesواژگان کلیدیAffective factors, participation, EFL, oral classes.
